This workshop kicks off the collaborative efforts to implement the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act and is the result of work funded by the City of Salinas, Monterey County, the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, the Monterey County Farm Bureau, the Grower – Shipper Association of Central California, the Salinas Valley Water Coalition and other local agricultural interests. The Groundwater Act requires that at least one Groundwater Sustainability Agency be established in the County by 2020.
The Consensus Building Institute has been conducting a stakeholder issues assessment for the project and has received nearly 85 survey responses and conducted about 36 interviews from a wide range of Salinas Valley interests. The workshop will include a presentation of draft findings and recommendations for the process to form a Groundwater Sustainability Agency.
