About Us
The Monterey County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) operates as a planning and grants making organization and is a leader and advocate for older persons in Monterey County. As one of 33 agencies on aging in the State of California we are responsible for the implementation of the federal Older Americans Act and the Older Californian’s Act at the local level. Since our inception in 1980, the Monterey County AAA has been administered by the Monterey County Department Social and Employment Services.
- As a planning agency, we conduct needs assessments, determine priorities, and develop the Area Plan. The Area Plan serves as a guiding document for local aging and adult services planning, development and coordination. The Area Plan is updated annually and presented to the Board of Supervisors.
- As an administrative agency, we monitor, evaluate, and document the program and fiscal performance of every contracted service provider.
- As an advocacy agency, we conduct public hearings, provide testimony before local and state governmental commissions, committees, legislative bodies, and collaborate with other organizations to develop and expand services to meet local needs.
- As a funding agency, we award approximately $1.7 Million in contractual grants for congregate and home delivered meal programs, supportive services, the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP), Ombudsman, caregiver support programs, and other programs designed to meet specific needs of older persons within our community.
Our Mission
To provide leadership in addressing issues that relate to older Monterey County residents; develop community-based systems of care which support independence, protect the quality of life of older persons and persons with functional impairments; and to promote citizen involvement in the planning and delivery of services.
