County of Monterey



The Auditor-Controller is the Chief Fiscal Officer of the County. The office is elected by Monterey County voter to provide accounting, budgeting, and financial services to the County, county agencies, school districts, special districts, and cities as defined under Government Code.

Rupa Shah, C.P.A., has diligently served the County of Monterey since 1997. Prior to being elected to the Office of Auditor-Controller, Rupa served as the Assistant Auditor-Controller, Chief Deputy Auditor-Controller over General Accounting and Reporting, Chief Deputy of Internal Audit, and an Internal Auditor within the Office of the Auditor-Controller.

Our Mission is to ensure the required Auditor-Controller functions specified in the California Constitution, under various California codes, and by the Board of Supervisors are performed. The duties are performed under the legal authority primarily set forth in the Government Code beginning with Sections 26880 and 26900. The Office of the Auditor-Controllerís primary mission is to ensure the fiscal integrity of the Countyís financial record and to provide service, assistance and information to the Board of Supervisors, County Departments and Employees, Special Districts and some regional non-county agencies, and the public.
