Reference: Created by state law effective January 1, 1977,
re-establishing the Board. The Area Board advocates for the legal, civil,
and service rights of persons with developmental disabilities.
Membership: Includes 3 members each from Santa Clara, San
Benito, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties and 5 members appointed by the
Governor. Terms are for 3 years, expiring January 1st.
Members are eligible for up to two consecutive terms. The term limit does
not apply to members representing counties with a population less than
100,000.
Qualifications and Functions: Appointees must not be in
conflict of interest by being employed or being on Boards of Directors of
agencies receiving state funds and which furnish services to the
developmentally disabled.
