COMMUNITY ACTION COMMISSION

 Legislative ReferenceEstablished April 1, 1972, pursuant to Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 (Public Law 90-222, Title II, Section 210) as amended in 1967 by Public Law 80-222, Title II, Section 211.  Re-established by Board of Supervisors Resolution 80-443, adopted August 5, 1980; amended by Resolution No. 89-415.  Name changed from Community Services Commission to Community Action Commission on June 15, 1999, Resolution No. 99-243; Amended By-laws, January 7, 2003

Membership:  Consists of 15 members, as follows:

 

A.* First Group -

               Representatives of low income - These are elected, then confirmed by the Full Board of Supervisors. (Contact person provides names.);

 

B.*  Second Group -

                One representative of the Public or Business Community appointed for each Supervisor’s District, voted on by the full Board of Supervisors;

 

C. * Third Group -

                One representative of the Private Sector appointed for each Supervisor’s District - voted on by the full Board of Supervisors. (Check with contact 

                person before putting on agenda)

 

Terms:  Each member has a 3 year term, expiring July 1st.

 

Qualifications & Functions:  The Community Action Commission advises the Board of Supervisors on issues related to poverty in Monterey County, and administers funding related to services for low-income people.  Members represent the public, private, and low-income segments of the community, and reflect the race, economic status and gender of the community.  

 

Meeting Date, Time and Place:  Meetings are held the third Monday of each month from 4:00-6:00 p.m., 1000 S. Main St., Ste. 110, Salinas, California.
