Terms: Each member shall have a 3 year term, expiring February 1st. (Resolution No. 82-336). Each member may serve a maximum of two consecutive 3-year terms and may be reappointed after an absence of no less than a one 3-year term. Qualifications & Functions: The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors on a variety of matters relative to women in the County. The Commission shall take affirmative action on behalf of Monterey County residents to eliminate the practice of discrimination and prejudice on account of sex, age, parental or marital status in the areas of housing, education, employment, community services, and related services; to study and analyze conditions that demonstrate discrimination or prejudice against women; to respond to complaints, and study and/or survey the need and issues concerning women and of discriminatory practices or incidents of prejudice because of sex; to seek to resolve such matters through consultation, conciliation, and advice; to prepare and disseminate sex discrimination and prejudice information to the Board of Supervisors, and to advise and counsel the Board of Supervisors, the County Administrator, State and Federal governments, and the residents of Monterey County concerning matters involving the needs of women and relating to discrimination and prejudice because of sex; to recommend necessary procedures, programs, or legislation to the affected and responsible parties, and to promote and insure equal rights and opportunities for all women.
