Frequently Asked Questions - Fire Restoration

1.  Q:  What Code Standards does my fire restoration project have to comply with?

      A:  The 2007 California Building Codes

2.  Q:  Do my plans need to be stamped and signed by a licensed professional?

      A:  Generally speaking, yes unless the design strictly complies with the prescriptive requirements of 2308, Conventional
           Light-Frame of the 2007 CBC.

3.  Q:  Will the permit fees be waived on a building permit for a proposed reconstruction of my fire-damaged structure?

      A:  Yes, if your fire insurance policy does not cover the cost of permit fees.  However, if the design exceeds the original
           footprint, additional fees may incurred.

4.  Q:  Who are the members of the Recovery Team to assist property owners whose properties contained structures
           damaged or destroyed by the Fire?

5.  Q:  I have questions about submitting building plans?  I am ready to submit a set of plans, who should I contact?

6.  Q:  What is the turn around time to schedule a meeting with one of the Recovery Team members?

      A:  No more than two business days after receiving a phone call to schedule the meeting.

7.  Q:  Will a representative from the Recovery Team perform a site visit to my damaged property?

     A:   Yes, if the property owner requests a site visit.

8.  Q:  What will be the main purpose of the Recovery Team?

      A:  The Recovery Team will be coordinating reviews, site visits, and inspections with the appropriate local fire agency to
           ensure that the site is safe for entry, temporary residences, debris removal, construction and habitation.

9.  Q:  What will need to be included in the submittal package?

     A:  The Recovery Team will determine what will need to be submitted so it is a good idea to schedule a site visit
          beforehand.

10: Q:  How long do I have to submit plans to reconstruct/replace my fire-damaged home?

      A:  July 22, 2010

11. Q:  Will a temporary residence be allowed during the reconstruction of my home?

      A:  Yes, subject to certain conditions.  Please go to:  Basin Complex Recovery Guidelines Resolution No. 08-250
            to learn more about the criteria for temporary residences.

12. Q:  Do I need to submit a soils report for the reconstruction of my home?

      A:  Yes.  However, the Building Official may consider requests for a modification of the code when special individual
           reasons exist that make these requirements impractical.

13. Q:  I want to reconstruct my home exactly the way it was originally built.  Can I design my home to be the codes
           that were in effect at the time my plans were originally submitted?

      A:  No.  All new buildings and structures and alteration or repairs to existing building and structures shall comply with
           the current California Code of Regulations and all governing local rules and policies.
