How to Get a Letter of Support for Your Child Care Project

Organizations and individuals are often required to provide letters of support when applying for funding. The Monterey County Child Care Planning Council is committed to supporting efforts that improve child care services and can help by signing letters of support for projects within Monterey County. This process informs Council members of pending projects as well as provides a platform for possible coordination and partnering opportunities.

An ideal timeframe in requesting a letter of support is six weeks before the deadline. Should there be less time available, the Executive Committee may provide a preliminary letter of support.

First Step: Prepare a brief written summary of the project with a request for a letter of support. Mail or deliver the request along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Monterey County Department of Social & Employment Services Child Care Planning Council                   1000 S. Main Street, Suite 301 Salinas, CA 93901

Second Step: The Executive Committee will review the request. Should the request be approved, the applicant will be contacted to schedule an appearance at an upcoming meeting of the full Council. Should it be necessary due to time constraints, a preliminary letter of support can be given, however an appearance at the next full Council meeting is still required. Should the request be denied, the applicant will be contacted and given alternative resources if available.

Third Step: Applicant requests will be placed on the agenda for the full Council to review. Applicants should be prepared to address the Council during a 2 minute presentation and have 25 copies of any relevant information available for distribution.

Fourth Step: If approved, a standard letter of support with the Chair's signature will be sent to the applicant in the provided self-addressed stamped envelope. If the request is denied, discussion at the meeting will determine the next step, if any.
