Know what is important & where to find it

One of the most diffcult tasks in the process of disaster preparedness is defining what exactly you need to be prepared. Here in Monterey County, plan ahead with the following:

plan_in_the_know_ready_to_go

1. Where do you get information from - The news? Family/friends? Work? How can you be more ready toKNOW what's going on in Monterey County?

2. What do you need to be READY? Take a few minutes to define what you - and anyone that counts on you - would need to survive for 3 days on your own. Is it medications or other first aid supplies? A particular kind of food? How about entertainment? And don't forget about any important family documents.

* Sure, you could buy a "kit" off of the shelf if you wanted, but it does not guarantee that it will provide necessary support to you and your loved ones. You know your own needs best!

3. Once you know what's important, have it ready to GO in case of emergency or evacuation.

Weather

With 13 different microclimates ("zones" of different weather patterns), Monterey County weather is as diverse as its residents. Knowing what the weather is like today, tomorrow and the rest of the week allows you to be prepared to handle whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

Be sure to visit the National Weather Service - Monterey Forecast Office page for all the latest informaiton regarding the weather and its anticipated impacts.
