For information about organic registration, organic certification, or consumer information about organic produce, see our Organic's page.

Monterey County was the first county agency to be registered as an organic certifier with the State of California and to be accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture. Monterey County Certified Organic (MCCO) provides certification services in the following scopes: crop, handler/processor, and wild crop. Monterey County Certified Organic (MCCO) is one of many agencies that is accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture National Organic Program (USDA NOP) to provide certification services.

MCCO is dedicated to supporting the local agricultural community and offers organic certification in the scopes of crop, handler/processor, and wild crop.

MCCO’s purpose and objectives:

  • Support the local organic agricultural community, availability of organic crops, and biodiversity.
  • Provide operators with public resources for assistance with National Organic Program (NOP) requirements.
  • Collaborate with other public agencies and organizations to share information about organic production practices and regulations; and to learn about efficiencies and new technology in organic production.
