Obtaining A Certified Confidential Marriage Certificate

IN-PERSON APPLICATION FOR AUTHORIZED CERTIFIED COPY OF A CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE RECORD:

1. You may complete the application via the internet and transmit it directly to the County Clerk's Office. You will need to come into the County Clerk's Office to pick-up the certified copy within two weeks or the application will be deleted. You must be one of the parties of the confidential marriage or a party entitled to receive the record as a result of a court order pursuant to Family Code Section 511(c) and if this is the case, you must provide a certified copy of the court order. 2. You may download the application and take the completed application to the County Clerk's Office. You must be one of the parties of the confidential marriage or a party entitled to receive the record as a result of a court order pursuant to Family Code Section 511(c) and if this is the case, you must provide a certified copy of the court order. (In BOTH cases above, when requesting a confidential certificate in person, the sworn statement on the application must be signed in the presence of a staff member and a valid Picture ID is required.)

MAIL-IN APPLICATION FOR AUTHORIZED CERTIFIED COPY OF CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE RECORD:

You must be one of the parties of the confidential marriage or a party entitled to receive the record as a result of a court order pursuant to Family Code Section 511(c) and if this is the case, you must provide a certified copy of the court order with your request. Your signature on the sworn statement must be acknowledged by a notary public. Monterey County contracts Vitalchek, a private company, to take orders of certified copies of vital records on-line by credit card. Vitalchek charges a $7 processing fee per transaction.
