Economic Development consists of the small business assistance and revolving loan fund (RLF), business retention & expansion (BR&E) programs, business attraction programs and special projects assigned by the Board. Staff supports the Economic Opportunity Committee, which advises the Board of Supervisors on appropriate economic development policies, programs and activities.
The Housing Division consists of the County Inclusionary Housing program, Affordable Housing program the, Post-Redevelopment Successor Agency projects, and the Community Development Block Grant programs.
Office for Employment Training (OET):
Since 1981, the Office for Employment Training serves the needs of Monterey County residents by assisting them in achieving their career goal and finding suitable employment. Together with their partners, OET has placed over 10,000 job seekers into new jobs. In the last 10 years, over 4000 people have been able to upgrade their vocational skills through various training programs. Services benefit job seekers, employers, entrepreneurs, and business professionals. Employers can take advantage of no-cost job placement services.
The Economic Development Department was authorized by the Board of Supervisors in 2010, combining the Office of Economic Development with the Workforce Development Board and Housing. The Department is intended to implement an integrated economic development model as illustrated below.
