Although every effort is made to provide complete and accurate information on this website and all its documents, users are advised to contact applicable County Resource Management Agency staff before making project decisions and fee estimates.
The purpose of this page is to inform the public of the project to repair the slip out on Cachagua Road, located at post mile 1.5. RMA Public Works staff continues to develop the engineering plans for the permanent repair. Several options for the permanent repair have been evaluated and have determined that the most effective solution is a geotextile-reinforced slope repair. The final engineering plans will reflect the geotextile built into the slope as well an enhance drainage system to better drain the slope area.
Monterey County has contracted with Granite Construction to construct the permanent repairs on Cachagua Road at post mile 1.5. The permanent repairs consist of rebuilding the slope with subdrains and geotextile fabric to further stabilize and anchor the fill material to the hillside. To complete the work, the temporary detour constructed earlier this year will be excavated down to competent rock material, which maybe 20 feet below existing grade. The entire project is expected to last 16 weeks, however, we are working with the contractor to minimize the closure of Cachagua Road as much as possible. The closure is expected to begin on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 and, at this time expected to last through December 2017, depending on weather. Monterey County will be working closely with Granite Construction to allow for intermittent access across the jobsite once it becomes safe for the public to use.
We will be working closely with emergency services during the closure as well as school districts, post office, and waste disposal service providers. During the closure of the road, the detour route will be signed and monitored to make sure it remains in satisfactory condition.
The proposed repair plan for Cachagua Road is consistent with the discussion we had at the Cachagua Community meeting in March regarding the repairs. We encourage the community to continue checking the website for updates on the project.
