Guidelines for Obtaining Residential Escrow Reports

(Use to Research the Permit History of a Property)

Pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1102 et seq., disclosure of facts regarding building improvements must be made at the time of resale.  This report is provided to assist in the preparation of the required State of California disclosure form.

Research of Building Permits is provided in the unincorporated area of the County only. Please contact the local City Offices for properties within a city jurisdiction.

There are four ways to request a Residential Escrow Report:


1) By Mail:  County of Monterey, Building Services/Records, 1441 Schilling Place - 2nd Floor,  Salinas, CA  93901

  • Customer completes a Residential Escrow Report form and pays applicable fee of $277.53 per Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) with a single address. If multiple addresses on the same APN additional charges will be assessed. (Staff will notify customer to give an estimate and payment will be required before research can be completed.) 
  • Residential Escrow Report Forms may be sent in by mail.
  • Research results will be faxed to the number provided or emailed to the requestor.
  • Visit our "Forms & Applications" page for Residential Escrow Report form or Credit Card Authorization forms.

2)  By Email:  299-recordsrequest@co.monterey.ca.us

  • Customer downloads and completes a Residential Escrow Report and Credit Card Authorization Form for the amount of $277.53 (plus bank fee of 1.7%) per Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) with a single address.  If multiple addresses on the same APN additional charges will be assessed. (Staff will notify customer to give an estimate and payment will be required before research can be completed.)
  • Attach above documents to email
  • Staff will confirm electronically that the request was received.
  • Research results will be faxed to the number provided or emailed to the requestor.
  • Visit our "Forms & Applications" page for Residential Escrow Report form or Credit Card Authorization forms.

3) By Fax:  (831) 757-9516

  • Customer completes a Residential Escrow Report and submits along with a completed Credit Card Authorization Form for the amount of $277.53 (plus bank fee of 1.7%) per Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) with a single address.  If multiple addresses on the same APN additional charges will be assessed. (Staff will notify customer to give an estimate and payment will be required before research can be completed.)
  • If research takes longer than ½ hour per address, additional charges will be assessed based on the actual time.
  • Research results will be faxed to the number provided or emailed to the requestor.

4) In Person

  • Customer completes a Residential Escrow Report and pays applicable fee of $277.53 per Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) with a single address.  If multiple addresses on the same APN additional charges will be assessed. (Staff will notify customer to give an estimate and payment will be required before research can be completed.)
  • Completed Request form and payment may be delivered in person to the Permit Center.
  • Research results will be faxed to the number provided or emailed to the requestor.
