Description:
The Maternal Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program focuses on the core
public health functions of assessment, policy development and assurance. The
program is community based and allows for participation by key stakeholders
in the identification of needs and implementation of strategies to improve
the health of women, infants, children and adolescents in Monterey County.
The program activities are aimed at encouraging all pregnant women to
receive early and regular prenatal care, reducing births to teens, promoting
access to family planning services to all women of childbearing age,
promoting breastfeeding, promoting early childhood development activities,
encouraging use of safety restraints, child safety seats, bicycle helmets,
and pedestrian safety. These services are implemented in coordination with
the community.
