The Monterey County Public Health laboratory is a
certified clinical laboratory and tests specimens
derived from the populace for the purpose preventing
spread of diseases. The laboratory uses the advanced technology and
highly trained staff to combat threats to the health of our community
including environmental toxins (such as childhood lead
poisoning) re-emerging diseases (such as whooping
cough, tuberculosis, and rabies) and new diseases
(such as HIV and Hepatitis C). The laboratory assists in the investigation
of disease outbreaks such as E. coli O157 and Cyclospora sp. The
public health laboratory works in partnership with local hospitals and medical care providers
support the County Board of
Supervisor's mission to assure quality health care
for Monterey County residents.
