Program Description:
The Monterey County Public Health laboratory is a certified clinical laboratory and tests specimens derived from the populace for the purpose preventing spread of diseases. The laboratory uses the advanced technology and highly trained staff to combat threats to the health of our community including environmental toxins (such as childhood lead poisoning) re-emerging diseases (such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, and rabies) and new diseases (such as HIV and Hepatitis C). The laboratory assists in the investigation of disease outbreaks such as E. coli O157 and Cyclospora sp. The public health laboratory works in partnership with local hospitals and medical care providers support the County Board of Supervisor's mission to assure quality health care for Monterey County residents.
