Committee Members Sought for Monterey County Citizens Redistricting Advisory Committee

The Monterey County Board of Supervisors plans to create a Citizens Redistricting Advisory Committee as part of its obligation to redraw Supervisorial districts based on the 2010 Census. Applications are now being accepted by each Supervisor's office from those interested in serving on the redistricting committee. The deadline for applications is February 26, 2010.

The Redistricting Committee will consist of 15 members, three from each supervisorial district.

The committee will be charged with developing a redistricting plan from the data received from the 2010 census and will hold public hearings to receive comments from the community. County staff and professional demographers will provide support. Participation on this committee requires a significant time commitment and will include orientation, training, meetings and public hearings. Most of the work will be done during the 2011 calendar year.
