BRIAN JACOBSON OF SMITH TREE SERVICE SPEAKING ON THE OAKS OF CARMEL VALLEY AT CARMEL VALLEY BRANCH LIBRARY

Join us on Saturday, January 5th at 10:15am, to hear about the evolution of the oak trees in Carmel Valley from Brian Jacobson of Smith Tree Service. How do we take care of the trees while we live within this beautiful ecosystem? Brian will discuss cultural practices, disease diagnosis and the complex interdependence of the Carmel Valley oak within the biotic community.

Brian Jacobson is a Certified Arborist (1988), and holds a degree in Geology (1980, Carleton College, Minnesota.) He is owner/manager of Smith Tree Service, a family tree trimming service, doing removals and trimming. Smith Tree Service was started by Everett Smith, Brian's grandfather, who starting doing tree work in 1928. The business was taken over in the early 1950's by his uncle, Hugh Smith. Brian started working in the business in 1984. He has two daughters, both landscapers, designing innovative landscapes, one in Vermont and the other in Berkeley. In addition to being an Arborist, Brian sings in Camerata and in the Carmel Bach Festival Chorus, and he keeps up on the latest Mars exploration, the next colonization destination for our species.

This First Saturday program is hosted by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library, and is free to the public. Seating is first come, first served. Refreshments will be served. For information call the library at 659-2377.
