Are you looking for the tools to start your own book club or do you already belong to an existing reading group? Monterey County Free Libraries can provide you with the resources you need for a successful program! The Library offers bags that contain 10 paperback copies of a book, discussion questions, discussion leader tips, and a sign-out sheet to help keep track of the
bag's contents.

Requesting a bag
- Any Monterey County Free Libraries patron can borrow a book club bag.
- Requests for for specific titles should be made at least three months in advance. If
your group needs something earlier ask Book Club to Go Coordinator at (831)
899-2055 for availability. Look for
available today at the Title
List.
- Requests can be made by filling out our online
form, phoning our Book Club to Go Coordinator at (831)
899-2055, at your local branch, or by email 611-seaside-ref@co.monterey.ca.us.
- Bags can be reserved up to one year in advance.
Checking out a bag
- Each bag will be checked out on the library card of the person who reserves it. That person is responsible for the bag and all of its contents.
- Bags must be checked out as a whole; individual contents cannot be checked out separately.
- Bags can be checked out for a period of six weeks.
- You may renew a bag for one additional six-week period provided no other group has a hold on it. To renew a bag, please contact the Book Club to Go
Coordinator directly.
- To cancel a hold, please contact the Book Club to Go
Coordinator directly.
Returning a bag
- Please check to make sure all of the contents are present before returning a bag. Replacement fees for an entire bag and its contents are $150, for a lost or damaged bag are $25, and will vary for individual items.
- Bags must be returned by the date they are due. Overdue bags will be charged a fee of 25 cents per day.
- Bags must be returned to a library staff member during open hours. They cannot be placed in the book drop.
