Borrower Services

Library cards are Free! You may apply at any County Library branch or bookmobile. Residents of Monterey County can apply for a Library Card online. A card from the Monterey County Free Libraries may be used at any branch location. Learn more about library cards and other borrower services.

Aquarium Pass Program

The Shelf to Shore Aquarium Pass Program was created for families who otherwise cannot afford to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Aquarium partners locally with Monterey County Free Libraries to distribute one free pass per year to eligible Monterey County Residents who have a Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL) card.

Book Club to Go Program

Are you looking for the tools to start your own book club or do you already belong to an existing reading group? Monterey County Free Libraries can provide you with the resources you need for a successful program! The Library offers bags that contain 10 paperback copies of a book, discussion questions, discussion leader tips, and a sign-out sheet to help keep track of the bag's contents. Bookmobiles

The Monterey County Free Libraries operates two bookmobiles: one based in King City which serves South Monterey County, and one based in Prunedale which serves North Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula. The two bookmobiles visit over thirty communities on a regular schedule. See Program locations and phone numbers for contact information. Computers, WiFi and Other Equipment

Public ComputersPublic computers, photocopiers and fax machines are available in every County Library branch.  Free WiFi (wireless access to the Internet) is available in the Aromas, Carmel Valley, Castroville, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Marina, Pajaro, Prunedale, San Ardo, Seaside and Soledad branches. Microfilm Reader/Printers are available at the Seaside and Soledad branches. Some branches also have typewriters and audio equipment.  View our internet and computer related policies.

Foundation Collection at the Seaside Branch Library

As a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection, the Seaside Library provides a core collection of print and electronic resources, and related reference services, of value to persons seeking scholarships, funding, grants for nonprofits and individuals, and more. Resources include public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Centerís electronic databases, Foundation Directory Online Professional, Foundation Grants to Individuals Online, and Philanthropy In/Sight. Library by Mail

We will send library materials by mail to residents in the Monterey County Free Libraries Service Area with a valid library card. Postage for delivery and pick up is prepaid, so there is no cost to you. Most items typically borrowed in person at the library can be delivered to you by mail. Literacy - Read with Monterey County Free Libraries

To meet the needs of the many adults in Monterey County with limited literacy skills, the Monterey County Free Libraries Adult Literacy Program offers confidential, student centered, one-on-one literacy tutoring to English speaking adults. Explore the benefits of becoming a literacy tutor or learner.

Meeting Rooms

Castroville, Greenfield, King City, Marina, Prunedale, and Soledad Branches offer community meeting room reservations. These rooms are secured apart from the normal library operating space, have access to restrooms, and have separate exterior doors to permit usage while the library is closed. Obituary Search

Monterey County Free Libraries staff will conduct obituary searches for a charge of $5 per name effective January 1, 2010. This charge goes toward the cost of processing this request. Payment is due upon receipt of the obituary. The obituary will be emailed, faxed, or mailed.  Checks or money orders must be payable to Monterey County Free Libraries. You may submit your request by phone or in person (branch locations and phone numbers). Or, you may send your request by email.

Test Proctoring

As part of our mission to support life-long learning, some branches of Monterey County Free Libraries (MCFL) provide test proctoring services to their patrons. Test Proctoring is currently offered by Monterey County Free Libraries at the following branches: BuenaVista, Carmel Valley, Castroville, Greenfield, King City, Prunedale, and Soledad. Learn about test proctoring procedures, fees, and more.

The branches and bookmobiles of Monterey County Free Libraries offer an array of services and programs for children and teens.
