Neal Thompson is the Traffic Engineer for the Department of Public Works and is responsible for the Traffic Engineering Section. Responsibilities include service requests related to traffic safety and operations and more particularly include roadway geometry, signing and striping, and traffic signal and lighting issues. The Traffic Section works with the Design, Construction, Transportation and Development Sections and the Operations Division when detailed Traffic Engineering expertise is needed. The Section also provides annual traffic counts at County-wide locations and studies and reports on high collision locations. Maintenance of traffic signals and safety lighting is provided through a private contract.
Mr. Thompson has been with the Monterey County, Department of Public Works, for 14 years as the Traffic Engineer.
Mr. Thompson is a registered Civil Engineer and Traffic Engineer in the State of California and has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from San Diego State University and a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Administration from California State University at Long Beach. Mr. Thompson is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the American Public Works Association.
