Chair called meeting to order at 3:00 PM.

Scott Dick, Ralph Villar, Juan Sanchez, Hazel Tompkins, Mary Estrada, Richard Garza.
Also present: George Dixon (VSO), Wes Morrill (MA II, MVAO), Michael McFadden (Principal Office Assistant, MVAO).

Minutes from July 10, 2013 meeting approved (O’Brien/Garza).
Report from the Chair: Sid Williams reminded the Commission that the Heroes Open Golf Tournament is on November 9, 2013. He introduced Mary Estrada, appointed by the UVC as a commissioner to MVAAC. He asked Wes Morrill to introduce George Dixon, the new VSO for
Pending State & Federal Legislation: Scott Dick distributed a handout of passed and pending State and Federal legislation that pertains to veterans, and provided a verbal summary.
Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Update: James Bogan stated that $2.6 million is needed to receive the Federal funds for the Veterans Cemetery. He reminded the commissioners that two initiatives will be on the November ballot that pertain to the Cemetery.
Veteran of the Year Program: James Bogan informed the Commission that the Veteran of the Year program will be held on November 2, 2013, at noon, at the Monterey Elks Lodge. Tickets will be $35, with a planned availability date of September 25.
VA Clinic: James Bogan stated that flu shots are now available at the VA Clinic.
Military & Veterans Affairs Report: Wes Morrill distributed a handout of interest and reviewed
its main points with the Commission.
Unfinished Business: A letter was prepared to send to the Board of Supervisors, asking them
to endorse Measure K.
New Business: None.
Commission Members’ Comments: Dan Presser reported on two PSA’s that he has prepared: One for the Heroes Open Golf Tournament, and the other for the VTC fundraiser to be held on September 27, 2013, from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 P.M.
