I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Chair at 1:00 P.M.

The Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was conducted. (Wes Morrill) – Quorum was present.

II. Approval of December 12, 2013 Minutes:

The minutes of January 9, 2014 were unanimously approved (Nye/Stewart).

III. CAC Chairman Activity Report: 

Jack Stewart noted that due to the recent progress with the Ft. Ord Veterans’ Cemetery, individuals are no longer hesitant to donate to the Cemetery and donations have increased.

IV. Public Comment:

None.

V. Update on Federal Legislation:

Congressman Farr reported that the State of California has now assumed its responsibilities for the Veterans Cemetery and is submitting its plans and drawings to the U.S. DVA for their review and approvals.

VI. Update on State Senate Legislation:

 Nicole Charles reported the 35% drawings for the Cemetery are close to approval.  Steve Jorgensen distributed two handouts illustrating the plan for Phase 1.

VII. Update on State Assembly Legislation:

Erica Parker. No report.

VIII. Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:

Tim O’Halloran.  No report.

 IX. Update from FORA:

Robert Norris copies of conceptual drawings of Phase I. Steve Jorgensen described various details of the project to date.

X.  Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks stated that the Foundation Board has a new member to lead their outreach effort.  The Foundation is now working on raising funds for Phase II of the Cemetery.

XI. Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnsen informed the Committee the UVC hosted a dinner on February 8, 2014 to honor the volunteers for the Heroes Open Golf Tournament.  Sid Williams reported that a corporate sponsorship solicitation letter has been mailed for the 2014 tournament.  A tournament brochure is also in the development stage.

XII. New Business: CAC Voting Members’ Retreat – Bogan/Morrill

Date and Time:  Friday, February 21, 1:00 P.M.

Location:  Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs, 1200 Aguajito Road, Suite 005, Monterey Courthouse 

Agenda:  Will be decided upon at the meeting.  Bill Nye recommended that the

Committee revisit its by-laws.

MVAO will e-mail the meeting notice and agenda pursuant to the Brown Act. 

XIII. Adjournment/Next Meeting:  Meeting adjourned at 1:35 P.M.  The next meeting is March 13, 2014.
