I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Chair at 1:00 P.M.

The Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was conducted. (Wes Morrill) – Quorum was present.

II. Approval of  April 10, 2014 Minutes:

The minutes of April 10, 2014 were unanimously approved (Nye/Villar).

III. CAC Chairman Activity Report: 

The Chair deferred to Edith Johnsen in place of Jack Stewart.  Ms. Johnsen reported that the funding and progress on the Cemetery is moving forward as expected.

IV. Public Comment:

None.

V. Update on Federal Legislation:

Sonia Arndt stated that Congressman Farr is pleased that what can be controlled concerning the Cemetery is on schedule for the USDVA Secretary to sign off by August 24th.

VI. Update on State Senate Legislation:

Nicole Charles reported that Kathy Smith spoke with Cal-Vet this week, and determined that all preliminary working drawings for the Cemetery are scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

VII. Update on State Assembly Legislation:

No report at this time.   

VIII. Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:

Tim O’Halloran stated that the EIR is still being reviewed for the Cemetery.

IX. Update from FORA:

Robert Norris reported FORA is working to get all of the transfer documents in order, and to get final agreement from the Army.

X.  Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks reiterated the importance of Monterey-Salinas Transit providing transportation for the seniors, the disabled, and the veterans and their families to the Veterans Cemetery, once it is operational.

XI. Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnsen reported that the brochures and posters for the upcoming Heroes Open Golf Tournament were completed at the April 17 meeting of the Golf Tournament Fundraising Subcommittee.  She also informed those present that a Memorial Day weekend dinner will be held on Saturday, May 24, at 3:00 P.M., at the American Legion Post 694.  The funds raised will go to the Veterans Transition Center for a flagpole and a flag.

XII. New Business:

Wes Morrill reported that findings from County Counsel will be sent to all the CAC members concerning the by-laws.

XIII. Adjournment/Next Meeting:  Meeting adjourned at 1:27 P.M.  The next meeting is June 12, 2014.
