I.          Call to Order

Meeting called to order by Chair at 1:00 PM.

Pledge of Allegiance

     

Roll Call:  Led by Mr. Thomas Griffin.

Present  - James Bogan (Chair, United Veterans Council),  Ralph Villar (District 1), Leonard Ortiz (District 3), Ralph Sirtak (District 4), Bill Nye (District 5).

 

Ex officio – Stephen Jorgensen (CDVA),  Tim O’Halloran (City of Seaside), Edith Johnsen (Veterans’ Families), Janet Parks (Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation), Tom Mancini (Ft. Ord Reuse Authority),  Julian Chacon (Representing Congressman Sam Farr), Thomas Griffin (Secretary, Monterey County VSO),  Wes Morrill (MA II, VSO Staff), Michael McFadden (Recorder, VSO Staff).  

 

­Absent – Frank Aguillon (District 2), Jack Stewart (Vice Chair, United Veterans Council), Nicole Charles (Representing Assemblymember Bill Monning), Hans Poschman (Representing 15th Senate District, Senator Sam Blakeslee).

 

II.                  Approval of March 8, 2012  Minutes:  The minutes were unanimously approved.

 

III.                CAC Chairman Activity Report:  James Bogan.  The planning for the upcoming golf tournament is going well.       

 

IV.               Public Comments  (Limited to 3 minutes each):   Steve Bloomer reviewed the e-mail documents sent to the CAC members on April 11, 2012, concerning  AB 1842, AB 1614, and FOR A.  He encouraged all of the CAC members to attend FORA meetings.

 

V.                 Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:  Julian Chacon.  Mr. Chacon acknowledged receipt of the letters of support for the veterans’ cemetery in Monterey County.  They were all forwarded to the VA in Washington, D.C.

 

VI.                Update on pending state legislation:  Nicole Charles absent.

 

VII.              Update on Endowment Parcel (EP) Matters:  Tim O’Halloran (City of Seaside).  The EIR is still moving forward for Monterey Downs and for the cemetery; late 2012 is estimated as the completion date.  The City of Seaside is supporting AB 1842.   

VIII.           FORA Update: Jonathan Garcia.  The language of AB 1842 is being broadly supported.  Next week FORA will be going to Washington, D.C. to discuss the veterans’ cemetery and other veterans’ issues.

IX.               Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:  Janet Parks / Candace Ingram.  The Mayor of Seaside has re-affirmed his support for the veterans’ cemetery.  Janet Parks is looking for more Board members.

X.                 Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:  Edith Johnsen: A meeting of the group handling the upcoming golf tournament was held on March 26, 2012.  The next meeting will be on May 21, 2012.  Edith Johnsen deferred to Sid Williams to report further.  Mr. Williams reported that the   United Veterans Council will be responsible for the golf tournament this year.  Different levels of sponsorship have been established.  Letters will go out to all sponsors and donors this year for tax purposes.

XI.               Additional Items:  Michael McFadden, Recorder, distributed a sign-up sheet requesting contact information from all of the CAC members.   This information will be compiled by the VSO’s office and distributed to all of the CAC members.

XII.             Adjournment:  Meeting adjourned at 1:40 P.M.  Next meeting is May 2, 2012.
