  1. Call to Order

The meeting called to order by the Chair at 1:05 PM.

The Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call was conducted (Mr. Morrill) - quorum was present.  

Roll Call:

Present – James Bogan (Chair), Ralph Villar (District 1), Ralph Sirtak (District 4), Bill Nye (District 5), Jack Stewart (Vice Chair, United Veterans Council).

Ex officio –Stephen Jorgensen (California Department of Veterans Affairs), Tim O’Halloran (City of Seaside), Edith Johnsen (Veterans’ Families), Janet Parks and Candace Ingram (Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation), Tom Mancini (Ft. Ord Reuse Authority), Nicole Charles (Representing Assemblymember Bill Monning), Assemblymember Bill Monning, Sonja Arndt (Representing Congressman Sam Farr), Wes Morrill (VSO Staff), Michael McFadden (Recorder, VSO Staff).

Absent/Excused: Leonardo Ortiz (District 3), Hans Poschman (State Sen. Blakesley representative), Tom Griffin (Secretary, Monterey County VSO). 

Mr. Morrill announced the resignation of Frank Aguillon of District 2 and the vacancy for that position on the Committee.

  1. Approval of September 13, 2012  Minutes:  The minutes from the September 13, 2012 meeting were unanimously approved (Villar/Nye)

 

  1. CAC Chairman Activity Report :  The Chair deferred to Assemblyman Bill Monning, who reported that AB1614 and AB1842 will by signed by the Governor. Mr. Monning also reaffirmed his ongoing support for the Ft. Ord Veterans’ Cemetery. 

    Jack Stewart reported that a complete history of the Veterans’ Cemetery was presented at the Seaside City Council meeting on Thursday, October 4, and that the Council has unanimously agreed to move forward with the Cemetery.

 

  1. Public Comments (Limited to 3 minutes each):  None.

 

  1. Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:  James Bogan introduced Sonja Arndt, the new representative from Congressman Sam Farr’s office.

 

  1. Update on pending state legislation:  Nicole Charles had nothing new to report at this time.  She will have more to report in the near future.

 

  1. Update on Endowment Parcel (EP) Matters:  Tim O’Halloran stated that the City of Seaside is moving forward with the EIR process for the Veterans’ Cemetery and for the Monterey Downs project.
  2. FORA Update: Jonathan Garcia distributed copies of the FORA Board Meeting agenda for Friday, October 12, 2012, for review and discussion.
  3. Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:  Ms. Parks reported that James Panetta was welcomed as a new Board member at the October 5 meeting of the Foundation. Three members have been appointed to the fundraising committee to develop new ideas for funding sources.
  4. Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee: Ms. Johnsen deferred to Sid Williams, who reported that fundraising for the November 10 golf tournament is ongoing and that the final details are being decided. Jack Stewart added that corporate sponsorships are still being sought and will be recognized. It was also stated that a news item will be released on the progress of the Veteran’ Cemetery with a PSA for the upcoming tournament.
  5. Adjournment:  Meeting adjourned at 2:25 P.M.  Next meeting will be on November 8, 2012.
