I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 1:00 P.M.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance.

II. Approval of December 13, 2012 Minutes:

The minutes of December 13, 2012 were unanimously approved. (Stewart/Sirtak)

 

III. CAC Chairman Activity Report: 

The FORA Steering Committee meeting to be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, will discuss the new VA DOD clinic and the Ft. Ord Veterans Cemetery.              

 

IV. Public Comments (Limited to 3 minutes each):

None.

 

V. Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:

Sonja Arndt reported that our Congressional District has increased in size due to redistricting, and is now the 20th District instead of the 17th.  She also stated that language referred to as the “Monterey Model” has been introduced into the DOD Bill designed to save in military base spending.

 

VI. Update on pending State legislation: 

Nicole Charles, representing State Senator Bill Monning, stated that AB 1842 and AB 1614 are in effect as of January 1, 2013.  Erica Parker, representing Assemblymember Mark Stone, had nothing new to report.

 

VII. Update on Endowment Parcel (EP) Matters:

Tim O’Halloran affirmed that the EIR for the Veterans Cemetery is expected this spring.

 

VIII. FORA Update:

Jonathan Garcia distributed the Agenda for the Board meeting on January 11, 2013, and reviewed its main points.

 

IX. Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks reported the Foundation added a new Board member, Robert Schaffer, at its January 4, 2013 meeting.  A retreat will be held by the Board on January 22 to plan membership and fundraising for 2013.  Ms. Parks received a check for $25,000 for the Foundation from the UVC’s golf tournament fundraiser.

 

X. Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnsen deferred to Jack Stewart, who updated CAC on the success of the DAV dinner held on January 9, 2013, to recognize the efforts of those who worked on the golf tournament fundraiser.  Mr. Stewart then presented plaques of appreciation to Lionardo Ortiz and to Edith Johnsen.  Sid Williams will draft letter for corporate sponsorship for the golf tournament to be held this year.
