CEMETERY CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 1:00 P.M.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance, led by Jack Stewart.

 

Roll call was conducted. (Tom Griffin) – Quorum was present.

II. Approval of February 14 , 2013 Minutes:

The minutes of February 14, 2013  were unanimously approved.

 

III. A.  CAC Chairman Activity Report: 

The Chair attended the Seaside City Council Meeting on Monday, March 4, 2013.  Jack Stewart stated that the Steering Committee has been working diligently concerning the transfer of the cemetery site property to the State, and this continues to be an ongoing process.      

 

IV. Public Comments (Limited to 3 minutes each):

There were no public comments.

 

V. Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:

Sonja Arndt, representing Congressman Sam Farr, reported that the Congressman has been meeting with CDVA officials, and that the State can do the property transfer within four months. There is a $30,000 fee for the land transfer.  She stated that the priority for the completion of the Veterans Cemetery is to fund the whole project at the lowest possible cost, rather than to complete it in phases.

 

VI. Update on pending State Senate Legislation: 

Nicole Charles, representing State Senator Bill Monning, stated that the Senator is fully committed to all requests made by Congressman Farr and to attending the same meetings to advocate for the cemetery.

 

VII. Update on State Assembly Legislation:

Erica Parker, representing Assemblymember Mark Stone, noted that the Assemblymember and his staff are encouraged by the sense of urgency displayed by Congressman Farr for the Veterans Cemetery.

 

VIII. Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:

Tim O’Halloran reported the draft EIR is now expected to be released this summer.

 

IX. Update from FORA:

Jonathan Garcia gave a summary of the Steering Committee meeting that was held on the morning of March 14, 2013.  The FORA Board workshop will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 2:00 P.M.

 

X.  Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks reported that the Foundation fundraising committee will meet this month with a professional fundraiser, and that financial support has come to the Foundation in memory of Abel Quinones.

 

XI. Update: Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnsen informed those present that another planning meeting for the Heroes Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 1:00 P.M., at FORA.  Sid Williams stated that the website is now active for signing up to play or to donate.  A brochure is being prepared to attract corporate sponsorship.

 

Meeting adjourned 1:45 P.M.  Next meeting April 11, 2013.
