Call To Order

The meeting was called to order the Chair at 1:00PM

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by James Bogan.

Roll Call was conducted. (Wes Morrill) – A quorum was present

Approval of March 14, 2013 Minutes:

The minutes of March 14, 2013 were unanimously approved. (Nye/Ortiz) 

CAC Chairman Activity Report

The Chair attended the April Seaside City Council meeting and the recent Board of Supervisors meeting.  It was reaffirmed at both meetings that FORA has been given authority to transfer each of their parcels to the State.

Public Comment (Limited to Three minutes each):

Monterey Down representative Ms. Beth Palmer spoke on the subject of a petition in circulation.  Mr. Steve Bloomer spoke about a fundraising event for the Seaside High School Alumni Association.  Ms. LeVonne Stone updated the Committee about a Department of Defense contract calling for the hiring of up to 500 disabled veterans and other significantly disabled persons for new jobs being brought to Seaside.

Update on pertinent Federal Legislative activities:

Sonja Arndt, representing Congressman Sam Farr reported the Congressmen have been researching the backlog of claims at the Oakland Regional VA office.  The Regional office has been implementing procedures to ensure claims are processed in a timelier manner.

Update on pending State Senate Legislation:

Nicole Charles, representing State Senator William Monning stated the Senator is working to facilitate the transfer of parcels set aside for the cemetery to the State. 

Update on State Assembly Legislation:

Erica Parker representing Assemblymember Mark Stone has no updates to report at this time.

Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:

Tim O’Halloran reported the EIR for the cemetery is now expected to be released later this year.

Update from F.O.R.A.:

Jonathan Garcia distributed the F.O.R.A. Board Agenda for Friday, April 12, 2013 and gave a summary of cemetery relevant items.

Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks stated she has resigned as President with Richard Garza having been selected as her successor. Jimmy Panetta will assume the role of the Administrative Secretary having now joined the Board.  The marketing committee continues it fundraising planning and activities.

Update: Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnson informed the Committee that the brochure for corporate sponsorship of the Heroes Golf Tournament is ready for use.  Sid Williams, chair of the event, reported the website has been updated and is active.  Solicitation letters are being finalized for sponsorship opportunities and for player registration. 

The Chair appointed an AD HOC subcommittee of Jack Stewart, Bill Nye, and the Chair to review and update the CAC By-Laws and return to the full Committee for adoption and forwarding to the County Board of Supervisors for final approval.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:48 P.M. The next meeting will be on May 9, 2013.
