I. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 1:00 P.M.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jack Stewart

Roll call was conducted. (Wes Morrill) – Quorum was present.

 II. Approval of April 11, 2013 Minutes:

The minutes of April 11, 2013 were unanimously approved (Nye/Ortiz).

 III. A.  CAC Chairman Activity Report: 

The Chair stated two different petitions are currently circulating regarding the Veterans Cemetery.

He also said that additional meetings may be necessary due to time-sensitive nature of the work regarding the Cemetery.     

 IV. Public Comments (Limited to 3 minutes each):

None.

 V. Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:

Sonja Arndt, representing Congressman Sam Farr, reported their office is working with the other entities to ensure timelines are met relative to submission of the application to the VA for project funding.

 VI. Update on pending State Senate Legislation: 

Nicole Charles, representing State Senator Bill Monning, reported numerous approvals for the land transfer to the state are proceeding recognizing the required deadlines in place.

VII. Update on State Assembly Legislation:

Erica Parker, representing Assemblymember Mark Stone, affirmed their office is working with the offices of Congressman Farr and State Senator Monning to ensure the Cemetery project continues to move forward.

VIII. Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:

Tim O’Halloran projected the Endowment Parcel will be available for sale in 2015 and not before.

IX. Update from FORA:

Jonathan Garcia reviewed the upcoming FORA Board Meeting Agenda, and Robert Norris gave the Steering Committee report.

X.  Report from Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation:

Janet Parks stated the Foundation did not meet last Friday and had nothing new to report.  Richard Garza attended a meeting last week that explored potential sources of public funding for the Cemetery.

XI. Update: Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:

Edith Johnsen reported the Heroes Open fundraising committee met in April and the upcoming fundraising meetings will be on May 16 and June 20, both at 2:00 P.M., in the FORA conference room. The Heroes Open Tournament will be on November 9.  The corporate sponsorship letters have been mailed, brochures are being printed, and imprinted golf balls are ready.

Stephen Jorgensen with CDVA thanked all for their fundraising efforts for the Cemetery.  He also stated that “phasing of the development” is normal for State and National cemeteries. 

James Bogan welcomed Rick Martin as the Representative for District 2.
