I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 1:00 P.M.

II. Approval of August 8, 2013 Minutes:
The minutes of August 8, 2013 were unanimously approved (Stewart/Villar).
III. CAC Chairman Activity Report:
James Bogan attended recent Seaside City Council meeting. Jack Stewart attended FORA subcommittee meeting on September 12, 2013.
IV. Public Comments (Limited to 3 minutes each):
V. Update on pertinent Federal legislative activities:
Sonja Arndt, representing Congressman Sam Farr, reiterated that fundraising is the major focus
at this time for moving forward with the Veterans Cemetery. Mid-October is the time frame for raising the rest of the needed money.
VI. Update on pending State Senate Legislation:
Nicole Charles, representing State Senator Bill Monning, stated that the Senator is pushing for the adoption of SB 232, which, if passed, would change the $1.5 million dollars set aside for the Veterans Cemetery from a loan to an appropriation of $1 million dollars.
VII. Update on State Assembly Legislation:
Erica Parker, representing Assemblymember Mark Stone, stated that Assemblymember Stone is working closely with Congressman Sam Farr’s office and State Senator Bill Monning’s office on the legislative side of the cemetery funding issue.
VIII. Update on Endowment Parcel/Seaside Matters:
Tim O’Halloran reported that the EIR is still under ongoing review.
IX. Update from FORA:
Robert Morris reported efforts continue relative to land that could be sold and be a source of funding.
Bob Schaffer reported that the Foundation is focusing their fundraising efforts in two areas:
major donors, and grassroots donors.
XI. Update: Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee:
Edith Johnsen deferred to Sid Williams, who reported that hats are being made for the Heroes Open Golf Tournament, players are beginning to sign up, and last years’ individual and corporate sponsors are being notified for their 2013 support. The Fundraising Subcommittee is requesting items for auction/raffle. A public service announcement has been prepared by Dan Presser. The next fundraising committee meeting will be held on September 19, at 2:00 P.M.
XII. Old Business:
CAC Revised By-Laws – Action Item
Mr. Wes Morrill reported that he is in touch with County Counsel concerning this matter, and there is nothing further to report at this time.
The Defenders’ Lodge at the Palo Alto V.A. will be opening on October 8, 2013.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:25 P.M. The next meeting will be on October 10, 2013.
