I.          Call to Order

Jack Stewart called the meeting to order at 1:03 PM.  Pledge of Allegiance.

           

Roll Call:

Present –Jack Stewart (Chair), Ralph Villar (Vice Chair & District 1), Frank Aguilon (District 2), Leonard Ortiz (District 3), Bill Nye (District 5), James Bogan (United Veterans Council).

 

Ex officio – Stephen Jorgensen (California Dept. of Veterans Affairs), Tim O’Halloran (City of Seaside), Edith Johnsen (Veterans’ Families), Janet Parks (Central Coast Veterans Cemetery Foundation), Tom Mancini (Ft. Ord Reuse Authority), Thomas Griffin (Secretary, Monterey County VSO), Michael McFadden (Recorder, VSO Staff).  

 

­Absent – Open (District 4), Juan Sanchez (Military & Veterans Affairs Advisory Commission), Bruce Evans (Ft. Ord Retiree Council), Nicole Charles (Representing Assemblymember Bill Monning), Hans Poschman (Representing 15th Senate District, Senator Sam Blakeslee), Julian Chacon (Representing Congressman Sam Farr).

 

Two active duty Specialists introduced themselves.

 

Jack Stewart stated that he will not consider being Chair after 01/2012.

II.                  Approval of September 8, 2011, Minutes:  Minutes Approved.

 

III.                Public Comments:  None.

 

IV.               Update on Pertinent Federal Legislative Activities:  Deferred. Julian Chacon not present.

 

V.                 Update on Pending State Legislation: Deferred. Nicole Charles not present. 

 

VI.               Update on Endowment Parcel Matters:  Jim Cook/Tim O’Halloran.  M.O.U. between City of Seaside, County of Monterey, and FOR A, was approved by Seaside City Council September 15, 2011.           

 

VII.             Update regarding FORA Grant:  Jonathan Garcia.  Nothing more to report on the grant.  FORA grant will be removed from agenda, but not FORA update.

VIII.           Report from CCVC Foundation:  Janet Parks/Candace Ingram.  Donations have been made in memory of G. Nakagawa.  Working on Nov. 12 golf tournament; looking for participants and sponsorships.

IX.               Update from Fundraising Liaison Subcommittee: Edith Johnsen.  Ms. Johnsen stated that P.S.A.’s are running on radio stations, on KSBW on October 16, on programming in Santa Clara County, and on NPS website.  The Nov.12 tournament needs more golfers; deadline has been extended to 10/27/2011.  Wants to sell $25 tea tickets.  679-2610  is phone # to call for information or to participate.  It was suggested that those who have supported this event in the past should be re-contacted and followed-up with.

X.                 Update/Discussion concerning Monterey Downs/Horsepark:  Beth Palmer working on M.O.U. between City of Seaside and Monterey County.  Has been approved by County.  Will be before the City of Seaside on 10/20/2011.  Working on M.O.U. for Eastside Parkway; still has to be approved by CSUMB and MPC.with Monterey Downs spoke and made a visual presentation of this project.

XI.               Additional Items:  Bill Nye and James Bogan volunteered to review the by-laws before 02/2012.  For next month, we will discuss Eastside Parkway, and its tie-in with Monterey Downs and with the Vet Cemetery.
