Statement to the Community Regarding a Potential Shelter in Place Order in Monterey County
Monterey County leaders, including the County Health Officer, County Supervisors and Administrators are aware of Shelter in Place orders now being implemented in San Francisco Bay Area counties and neighboring communities.
Please know that County officials have continually assessed our situation to determine appropriate responses. We are actively considering if a shelter in place order should be issued here and will further consider the issue tomorrow, Tuesday March 17, 2020. If there is a need for additional steps, the County will share that information widely so communities can take whatever action is needed.
At this time, Monterey County has no confirmed case of COVID-19, our Public Health Lab is continuing to test for the virus, actions have been taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout the community and we are actively working with our city partners and other counties.
In the meantime, if you don’t need to go out, please stay home – and continue to follow preventative measures such as handwashing and disinfecting as well as guidance regarding social distancing, no large gatherings and self-isolation for senior citizens and those most vulnerable to the virus.
