The County of Monterey is making an amendment to the Monterey Urban County Community Development Block Grant 2013-2020 Consolidated Plan by adding additional CARES Act funding to the FY 19/20 Annual Action Plan available to the public through this notice. Read more.


 

 If you are unable to pay rent due to Coronavirus-related inability to pay, such as:

  • A tenant (or tenants) in the household lost income due to the coronavirus, the state of emergency, or the related government response (such as a layoff or reduction in hours).
  • A tenant (or tenants) in the household needed to miss work to care for a child whose school was closed in response to the coronavirus.
  • A tenant (or tenants) in the household was unable to work because of sickness with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.
  • A tenant (or tenants) in the household was unable to work because of a need to care for a household or family member who was sick with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.
  • Other COVID-related reason

The California Attorney General has approved the following form for optional use by tenants affected by the coronavirus pandemic to notify their landlords of their inability to pay rent.

Monterey County Temporary Eviction Control Law

Monterey County now has in place a Temporary Eviction Control law protecting tenants who may be impacted by rent gouging or arbitrary eviction before the state’s Tenant Protection Act goes into effect January 1, 2020.

There are two types of Affordable Housing Assistance Programs currently available to income qualified County residents:

1) The Inclusionary Housing Program, a program that provides home ownership and rental opportunities for households who have very low, low and moderate household incomes, and

2)  Down Payment Assistance Program for First Time Home Buyers.
