Membership:

  • Total not to exceed 16 representatives including
  • One from each Supervisor’s District (5 total), at least three Supervisor's appointees should be from a minority group and one disabled person
  • Two from the Department Head’s Council
  • Two from the County Employee’s Association (SEIU - Local 521)
  • One from the Deputy Sheriff’s Association
  • Up to five representatives from various community based organizations which actively advocate for civil rights and/or represent the interests and concerns of ethnic/racial minority groups, the disabled, and the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community of the County
  • One member of the “Commission on the Status of Women”

Terms:

Each appointee serves a 3-year term, expiring on December 31st, except the Supervisor’s District appointees which serve concurrent with the Supervisor’s term or at the Pleasure of the Board. There is a six-year maximum consecutive term of membership.


Qualifications & Functions:

Review the Equal Opportunity Plan for County of Monterey (Plan), adopted by the Board of Supervisors on January 29, 2013.. The Equal Opportunity Advisory Commission shall advise and make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on matters relating to equal opportunity as part of the Monterey Plan. Recommend goals and timetables regarding The Monterey Plan for departments and the County. Review annually and make recommendations on the progress of departmental plans in furtherance of the Monterey Plan’s goals for equal opportunity.


Meeting Date, Time and Place:

The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Board of Supervisors' Chambers (168 W. Alisal Street, First Floor, Salinas, CA)
