10th Annual Food Safety Conference

Every year during Monterey County’s Food Safety Education Month, the Consumer Health Protection Services program of the Monterey County Environmental Health Bureau hold an annual food safety conference. Keep an eye out for our next conference in September of 2019.

Food Safety on the Go

This year’s conference, “Food Safety on the Go” highlighted food safety for temporary food event vendors and mobile food vendors. The Keynote Speaker from the Housing and Community Development office for the State of California, presented on the nuances of building a mobile food facility and the steps necessary to permit it for use. Also sharing the platform were speakers from local Fire Departments, with a focus on fire safety, and an overview covering common fire hazards and fire prevention tips for barbecues, ovens, and stoves was provided. The Monterey County Health Department also reviewed food safety for vendors, including how to host a successful illness-free event.

Food Safety Month

The conference marked the culmination of Monterey County’s Food Safety Education Month, focusing on the importance of Food Safety education to an informed workforce for the restaurant and food-service industry, while at the same time raising the public’s level of confidence in the industry’s commitment to Food Safety. National Food Safety Month was created in 1994 to heighten the awareness about the importance of food safety education. The Monterey County Environmental Health Bureau has been part of the Food Safety educational conference for the past ten years.
