Did you know there are two functioning landfills in Monterey County?

Johnson Canyon Landfill (JCL) in Gonzales serves the residents of the Salinas Valley while the Monterey Peninsula Landfill (MPL) serves the residents in the Peninsula. In 2018 226, 386 tons of waste were landfilled at JCL and 653, 734 tons of waste were landfilled at MPL.

Monterey County Health Department Recycling Services is here to help educate commercial businesses, schools and residents reduce reuse and recycle, by doing so we will decrease the amount of waste being landfilled and increase the life of the landfills in Monterey County.
