Monterey County and City of Salinas Animal shelters are located on Hitchcock Road in Salinas only a stone's throw away from each other.  Discussions began 2015 about consolidating and in 2018, sharing of staff between City and County began. As of early 2020, there was a shared Administrator, Education/Volunteer Coordinator, Supervisor, Animal Care Technician, Registered Veterinary Technician and Veterinarian.  The March 2020 COVID-19 crisis created a situation where animals counts were extremely low and it made sense to quickly consolidate staffing into one building.  As of June 1, 2020, processes and procedures continue in the direction of further consolidation under one name, Hitchcock Road Animal Services.
