Skunk in Corral de Tierra area tests positive for rabies
A skunk found on June 29th in the Corral de Tierra area of the County, off San Benancio, has tested positive for the rabies virus. Animal Services has investigated the incident and determined that while there was exposure to owned pets, there was no human exposure.

Animal Control Officers for both Monterey County and City of Salinas provide services in their respective jurisdiction. While Animal Services are in the process of merging overall, field services continue to remain separate. Please see below for specific information.
City of Salinas Animal Control: Monday - Friday 8am-4pm. Please call 831-758-7321 assistance in the City limits of Salinas or go to https://salinasca.qscend.com/311 .
Monterey County Animal Control: Monday - Friday 8am-5:30pm, Please call 831-796-8856 for assistance in the UNINCORPORATED Monterey County or click here for online complaint form.
Please DO NOT call for service outside of the jurisdictions above. You will be re-directed appropriately.
- Field Services — Pick up of stray dogs or injured cats and dogs, patrol, animal bite investigation, animal complaint resolution/mediation, dangerous/vicious dog declarations, permits (Monterey County only).
- Emergency Services — After business hours response to potentially rabid animals, to dangerous/aggressive domestic animals when no owner is present, to injured domestic animals, and to animal bites.
*Currently City of Salinas has emergency services Monday-Thursdays from 4pm-8am.
*Monterey County does not offer emergency services at this time.
