  • Amendment No. 8 to the Unified Franchise Agreement Approved

    Amendment No. 8 to the Unified Franchise Agreement (Agreement No. A-11631) between the County of Monterey and USA Waste of California, Inc., dba Carmel Marina Corporation, for the Exclusive Collection of Solid Waste and Recyclables in Unincorporated Monterey County has been approved.

  • Jennie-O Turkey Recalls Raw Ground Turkey Products due to Possible Salmonella Reading Contamination

    Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales,has issued a recall for approximately 91,388 pounds of raw ground turkey products that may be associated with an illness outbreak of Salmonella. There is a concern that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

  • Las Palmas area bat tests positive for rabies virus

    On October 15th, 2018, a bat found in the Las Palmas area of unincorporated Monterey County tested positive for the rabies virus. While there was exposure to an owned pet, Monterey County Animal Services investigated and determined that there was no human exposure in this case and is issuing this positive test information as a reminder to pet and livestock owners.

Monterey County Animal Control OfficersAnimal Services provides field services to the unincorporated area of the County of Monterey.

Monday – Saturday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Field Services — Pick up of stray or injured animals, patrol for problem areas.

Emergency Services — After business hours (Mon-Fri 5:30 pm - 8:30 am and major Holidays) response to potentially rabid animals, to dangerous/aggressive domestic animals when no owner is present, to injured domestic animals, and to animal bites.

 

Animal Services provides the following field services to the unincorporated areas of the County of Monterey.

Rabies Control
Quarantine investigations for biting animals, testing of potentially rabid animals, reporting to appropriate agencies, and low cost rabies vaccination clinics.
Citizen complaints
Investigating and mediating nuisance complaints from citizens including excessive noise, running at large, etc.

Licensing
Mandatory for dogs and voluntary for cats over 4 months of age. For more information on Licensing costs & requirements, visit this page.

Permits
Issuance and inspection of citizens requesting  Boarding, Breeders  and Rooster Keeping Permits, which are all required by law. For more info, see these pages: Boardingl/breeder or Roosters.

Dangerous/vicious dog declarations
Investigation and processing for hearings when designation of dangerous dogs and destruction of vicious dogs is needed. To submit a complaint online, click here.

Stray Animal Pick-up
Contact Animal Services to pick-up stray or abandoned animals.
Trap Rentals
Animal Services has no humane animal traps available at this time. Please contact your local feed store or hardware store about renting or purchasing humane dog/cat traps.
