NEW HIRES OR REHIRED EMPLOYEES MUST ENROLL WITHIN 30 DAYS

Eligible new hires or rehires must enroll into medical, dental, vision, and FSA coverage within 30 calendar days of their hire date. If you do not enroll within 30 days, you will not have another opportunity to enroll until Open Enrollment for coverage to start on January 1st of the following year or with a qualifying event.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

You must be a permanent employee working at least 40 hours per pay period (0.5 full-time equivalent) to qualify for County benefits.

  

HOW TO ENROLL

You will need to contact your Benefit Coordinator to complete the enrollment form and submit your dependents' eligibility paperwork. Your enrollment form and supporting documents must be submitted within 30 days of hire.

  

WHEN COVERAGE BEGINS

Your coverage will begin the first day of the month following your eligibility date. For example, if your first day with the County was March 19th, your coverage will be effective in April 1st.

  

CONTRIBUTIONS

Employee premium contributions are deducted on the second paycheck of the month. Check your paystub to verify that the correct premium contribution is deducted. If your deduction is incorrect or it is not deducted, contact your Benefit Coordinator.

  

RETIREMENT

As a new permanent employee you will be enrolled in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). For more information go to CalPERS Retirement.
