The County offers a wide variety of other benefits and programs available to employees to help balance your career and personal life. 

UNUM

Management Short Term Disability Policy #472877:

The County of Monterey provides a Short Term Disability Insurance policy for permanent employees in units D, E, G, L, O, X, XL and Y. The policy is paid by the county and provides wage replacement benefits while you are unable to work due to a medical disability. Submit a claim at www.unum.com or by submitting a claim form. New employees can elect to Buy Up more benefits by completing the Buy Up Enrollment Form.

 

Management Long Term Disability Policy #101698:

The County of Monterey provides a Long Term Disability Insurance policy for permanent employees in units D, E, G, L, O, X, XL and Y. The policy is paid by the county. You can submit your claim at www.unum.com or by completing a claim form.

Voluntary Policy #292871:

Permanent employees in units F, H, J, M, N, P, Q, R, V, or Z are able to purchase a UNUM Long Term Disability Insurance policy. The policy premium is paid by the employee through post-tax payroll deduction. Employees in these bargaining units can submit a claim at www.unum.com or by submitting a claim form.


 

AFLAC

County employees are able to select from a variety of AFLAC policies to fit their family and financial needs. One of the advantages of purchasing AFLAC through the County is that employees receive group rates that would otherwise not be available if they purchased an individual policy. These plans are subject to underwriting. Contact your Benefit Coordinator to schedule an appointment.

VOLUNTARY BENEFIT POLICIES (EBS PLANS)

If you have an EBS policy and need information about your policy you can contact Flexible Benefit Administrators. Employees can no longer purchase these policies, however similar policies can be purchased through Aflac.

 

EMPLOYEE PHYSICALS

Permanent full-time employees can receive a physical examination and specific lab work at no cost once a year or every two years, depending on bargaining unit. Check your unit’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for frequency of benefit. The examination results are completely confidential. EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAM

The Monterey County Employee Wellness Program is a partnership between management, unions, and employees to address the health and safety needs of Monterey County Staff. Employees are eligible to receive 12 hours each fiscal year to attend Employee Wellness sponsored programs and activities. This program is administered by the Monterey County Health Department. Some of the program focuses are:

  • Physical Activity
  • Manage Your Health
  • Tobacco Cessation
  • Pregnancy, Parenting and Breastfeeding

 

SICK LEAVE BANK

County employees can voluntarily donate a portion of their accrued leave to fellow county employees who, due to medical emergency, have exhausted all of their own accumulated leave time. Any non-probationary county employee may donate accrued sick leave to a specific county employee whose request for Sick Leave Bank has been approved or to the Sick Leave Bank in general. Contact your Benefit Coordinator for to obtain a claim application and submit it to your supervisor for approval.

 

VANPOOL

Help save money and the environment by using The County Vanpool and having the monthly charge deducted from your payroll check on a pre-tax basis. The County currently has three vanpool routes: Santa Cruz, Monterey Peninsula, and South County. Contact Shawne Ellerbee at 755-4794 for more information.
